Cold Kiwi's Favorite Actresses - Winter 2011

We appreciate how difficult it is to be a great actress/actor.   Everyone thinks they can act, but only a select and rare few can actually perform at the level that can move people to tears, laughter, and more.   Hollywood has been blessed with some really great talent lately, especially in some of the younger female talent that has broken through.

A few actresses that stand out over the past few months in recent film roles include, but are not limited to:

Kristen Stewart - She has been a great lead in the Twilight series, but she was BRILLIANT in The Runaways playing a young Joan Jett.   This was a sleeper film for 2010 and every music fan that grew-up in the 70's should check this film out, it is great!   Kristen has matured into a really excellent actress and she seems to have a great career ahead of her.

Amy Adams - Amy has had a great early career, with some really excellent roles in excellent films including: Sunshine Cleaning, Enchanted, Julie & Julia, and her recent wonderful role as the girlfriend in The Fighter, which is one of the best films for 2010.  Amy has historically played a more comic relief or lighter role (with the exception of  Doubt where she was also brilliant as a supporting role to Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman), but she is amazing in The Fighter and this could be her break-out to many future dramas.

Emma Watson - Emma is best known for her roles in the Harry Potter films as Harry's sidekick Hermione Granger, she has shown real talent on the silver screen.   She has been working non-stop filming eight Potter films over the past 10-years and has just wrapped up the final in the series - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 She is now headed to Brown University to get an education so she will know how to manage all that money.

Natalie Portman - Natalie has proven her depth as a great actress in films from Garden State to Brothers to Star Wars to her recent highly praised role in Black Swan.  Though Natalie has been in many films and the Black Swan is a film everyone should see, the movie that she had a break-out role was in The Other Woman.

Last but not least, we want to highlight an actress that has had some really amazing recent successes in her career, and 2010 was a tremendous year for this starlet. Carey Mulligan is an amazing new star and has proven her chops over the past couple of years.   Carey has been in some of the best recent films including such greats as: The Greatest, Public Enemies Brothers Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, and was tremendous in two of the best films over the past few years:  Never Let Me Go and  An Education.
