Stryde's First Party...

Stryde had his first party with his friends today. This was the first time he had been invited where Dryver was not involved and he was with his friends. We asked him who he wanted to go with many times, and each time he said ‘Daddy take me!’ He was very excited that it was a party just for him and his friends. He also was excited that Dryver was not going, though I think he was also a little scared that he was going on his own.

On the way to the party he kept talking about Dora, whom we knew was going to be making an appearance. He said he wanted to eat cake and pizza and play with Dora. When we got there he started playing with the games and toys. It was clear though, he was missing his partner in crime, Dryver. He was having a good time and enjoyed the time with his friends, but he still was very attached to me and also was constantly looking around to see if Dryver was there.

He is still getting used to being in a social environment, and I am very proud of how far he has come over the past year. He is more and more independent, but is still very dependent on us for support. Stryde is very mature in many ways, but also shows the fact he is only 2 ½ many times. The funniest time of the party was when Boots and Dora showed up and we took pictures with them. All of the kids would stand in front of Dora and she would hold them as the pictures were taken. Stryde decided to treat them as his equals and line up for a shot. It was cute and everyone thought it was funny. He is a funny kid, that is for sure.

I was very proud of how Stryde interacted in this social environment. He played with the kids, painted, and even danced. Best of all, he only hit two kids, and not very hard at that. I guess we are getting there.

By the way, on the way home from the party, I asked him if he had fun. He said 'Yeah Daddy, but next time I want to bring Dryver.' These guys really are best friends.
