Obama Visits Iraq
This is a cool photo from when Obama visited Iraq this week. These guys are chilling and smoking some drugs at the local hot spot. You can see Obama talking on the television while these guys are chilling out.
The perspective is interesting to me, the most powerful person in the world is blocks from these guys. He worries daily about the safety of the world and how to make sure less people get sick or are homeless. These guys are not worried about anything except if their lighter will run out of fluid.

Amazing Images and Thoughts...
Since my main man entered office in late January this year I have felt differently about the war. I know we are headed in the right direction finally and know we are focused where it matters... in Afghanistan getting the real bad guys!
President Obama has ordered an additional 21,000 U.S. troops to be deployed to Afghanistan, which will bring the full U.S. deployment there to a total of 60,000 troops, joining 39,000 coalition troops from 43 countries.
President Obama, and his team, have actually been open and transparent around their goals and what they are planning. They are putting in place measurements and metrics around how well we are doing against our goals and objectives in the war.
Here are some of the most amazing photos I have found across the web, and some additional sources for photos of the war in Afghanistan.

What A Day...
I am proud of my state of Virginia! I am proud of my city of Alexandria! I am proud of my country!
Obama won Virginia by almost 200,000 votes, and carried 52% of the vote in a state that has been voting Republican for 50+ years.... My home city of Alexandria voted for Obama with 72% of the vote. My last calculation has Alexandria City turn out being around 90%!

Hit'em Back!
This is really good. This family had their Obama sign stolen from their front yard, as did many in the neighborhood. There have been reports of signs being taken, but mostly because people wanted them for their own yard.
But in this case, the sign theif was a McPalin supporter, because they also spray painted many of the other Obama signs in the neighborhood.
To retailiate against this idiot (not sure if they are an idiot for stealing a sign at 2am or for supporting McCain) they put up their own sign. This is really great!

The Real America
This video really amazing to watch, knowing there are many more like it that didn't make their way to YouTube. The McCain campaign is really headed down a slippery slope, and they need to put a stop to it (which Senator McCain is trying to do in this video.) The problem is there are so many people that support an Anti-Obama ticket, which happens to be McCain. When I think about it this could have been almost anyone (even David Duke?), and actually think that you could put almost any candidate in McCain's chair and they would have automatically 30-40% of the vote.
Why do I say this? Because our country is still back-assward. We are a bunch of terrified people that live in the middle of the country and are scared as hell of change and anything (emphasis on anything) different. For good or bad, our country has a bunch of people that have never experienced much outside of their 20 mile radius of their home town.
The charm of America is a boy growing up in a small town in Middle America, working for his dad in the hardware store when he gets older, and then marrying Susie Jane and having 3 kids and a dog and taking over dad's store. Actually, this is the picture that Palin is trying to draw. Of course it is more like a divorced family, with a step-dad that beats his son for not cleaning his room. He was laid off from the local manufacturer because his job was sent to Mexico, and is working at the local Bennigan's, which is ironic because it is to help his son pay for him to go out with his friends at the mall on the weekends. His son is on a handful of drugs, including trying heroin and meth. The 16-year old daughter is pregnant, and the dog craps on the neighbors yard every morning.
Anyway, I think this video is really scary. These people at the McCain rallies are getting more and more vocal and yelling out really nutty things. It is a sign of panic (off with his head one guy yells out) and we all know it is because Obama is black. That's it, it isn't any more complicated or any more simple, he is a black man and is damn scary to all of these folks that really were brought up to be wary (aka hate) black people.
If you watch this video, and interject in everything each person is saying 'he is black' you get the real story. The guy that says 'We are scared of Obama...' just add in 'because he is black' and you have the full picture.
These vocal folks are just the tip of the iceberg and I am getting really nervous that we are headed to a really tense situation in our country. There is hatred in what these people are saying. There is real deep down fear in what these people are saying. If you mix fear and hatred, and maybe a six-pack of beer, you have a real problem.
I love Obama. I have never been so excited about a candidate for president in my life. I did love, and will continue to love William J. Clinton, but Obama is another man and another leader. He can do amazing things for our country, and will make sure my kids have the life that I had, if not better.
Watch this video and tell me if I am being overly sensitive, or if we are really in for a real test of America and what we are, and what we strive to be!

Character Is Who You Are When No One Is Looking...
This is a story from the Norwegian newspaper VG, the biggest newspaper in the country, from today's edition. A blogger translated the story and posted on his blog... I have reposted here because I thought this story was really cool. I 100% believe it for many reasons, but the most important is Norwegians seem like the kind of people who really wouldn't bullshit.
Not that these things matter in today's dog-eat-dog world, but I found it quite touching, and I want to share. I think that this is a story that some may be interested in hearing. If you're not interested, cork it. I've translated the story into English and am posting it here. The original, in Norwegian, is here.
Mary lacked money to fly home to Norway – he saved her love
ÅSGÅRDSTRAND (VG): Mary was a newlywed and ready to move to Norway, but was stopped at the airport because she didn’t have enough money for the trip. Then a stranger turned up and paid for her.
Mary Menth Andersen was 31 years old at the time and had just married Norwegian Dag Andersen. She was looking forward to starting a new life in Åsgårdstrand in Vestfold with him. But first she had to get all of her belongings across to Norway. The date was November 2nd, 1988. At the airport in Miami things were hectic as usual, with long lines at the check-in counters. When it was finally Mary’s turn and she had placed her luggage on the baggage line, she got the message that would crush her bubbling feeling of happiness.
-You’ll have to pay a 103 dollar surcharge if you want to bring both those suitcases to Norway, the man behind the counter said. Mary had no money. Her new husband had travelled ahead of her to Norway, and she had no one else to call.
-I was completely desperate and tried to think which of my things I could manage without. But I had already made such a careful selection of my most prized possessions, says Mary.
Although she explained the situation to the man behind the counter, he showed no signs of mercy.
-I started to cry, tears were pouring down my face and I had no idea what to do. Then I heard a gentle and friendly voice behind me saying, That’s OK, I’ll pay for her. Mary turned around to see a tall man whom she had never seen before.
-He had a gentle and kind voice that was still firm and decisive. The first thing I thought was, Who is this man?
Although this happened 20 years ago, Mary still remembers the authority that radiated from the man.
-He was nicely dressed, fashionably dressed with brown leather shoes, a cotton shirt open at the throat and khaki pants, says Mary. She was thrilled to be able to bring both her suitcases to Norway and assured the stranger that he would get his money back. The man wrote his name and address on a piece of paper that he gave to Mary. She thanked him repeatedly. When she finally walked off towards the security checkpoint, he waved goodbye to her.
The piece of paper said ‘Barack Obama’ and his address in Kansas, which is the state where his mother comes from. Mary carried the slip of paper around in her wallet for years, before it was thrown out.
-He was my knight in shining armor, says Mary, smiling. She paid the 103 dollars back to Obama the day after she arrived in Norway. At that time he had just finished his job as a poorly paid community worker in Chicago, and had started his law studies at prestigious Harvard university.
In the spring of 2006 Mary’s parents had heard that Obama was considering a run for president, but that he had still not decided. They chose to write a letter in which they told him that he would receive their votes. At the same time, they thanked Obama for helping their daughter 18 years earlier.
In a letter to Mary’s parents dated May 4th, 2006 and stamped ‘United States Senate, Washington DC’, Barack Obama writes: ‘I want to thank you for the lovely things you wrote about me and for reminding me of what happened at Miami airport. I’m happy I could help back then, and I’m delighted to hear that your daughter is happy in Norway. Please send her my best wishes. Sincerely, Barack Obama, United States Senator’. The parents sent the letter on to Mary.
This week VG met her and her husband in the café that she runs with her friend Lisbeth Tollefsrud in Åsgårdstrand.
-It’s amazing to think that the man who helped me 20 years ago may now become the next US president, says Mary delightedly. She has already voted for Obama. She recently donated 100 dollars to his campaign.
She often tells the story from Miami airport, both when race issues are raised and when the conversation turns to the presidential elections.
-I sincerely hope the Americans will see reason and understand that Obama means change, says Mary.

This is not a big or important story. But it is a nice story and if one is voting for a person, and not just for a political platform, it might be interesting to hear it. Somehow I don't see this story being covered in American media much, so let's count this as one blogger's contribution to the news coverage of the 2008 election. :-)

I wonder if the guys who counted the votes in this room are running the polls? I bet they are the guys that are counting the votes at the election day....
It is funny to hear the crowd laugh when the reporter says the vote is split between McCain and Obama. You gotta watch, this is really funny and only something you could ever get out of Fox!

The Man...
The difference between Obama and Jesse Jackson is that Jackson is yelling about how many black men and women are in prison and Obama is wondering why there aren't more black men and women in law school and medical school. He is demanding that men and women mentor their kids and let them know how high they can soar.
I'm glad that he's married to a high powered lawyer/administrator. That couple says so many positive things to men and women. Meanwhile, Jesse sees his time slipping away and he's ticked off beyond belief.

My Ballot...
Okay I voted for Obama. He is the best and I really really hope he wins. I don't think I can take it if Hillary Clinton wins the nomination. I will have to vote for an Republican for the first time ever in my lifetime.
Please Obama!!! I don't want to vote Republican, but if I don't have any other option I will. I refuse to ever vote for Hillary Clinton!

Come on! Senator Clinton is grasping for straws on this one...
In the debate on MSNBC tonight, Senator Obama Denouced Farrakhan's support, but Hillary wanted him to reject it. Barak looked at Hillary just confused about why she was pushing this as he just Denounced the support and strongly was critical of Farrakhan.

Here is a great idea that was posted on Daily Kos. For Obama supporters out there, this is a good Grassroots way to show support for Barak without breaking the bank.
The idea is that on February 12th (Lincoln's Birthday) there is a money bomb extravaganza of small donations of $5.01 for Senator Obama. The reasons for this amount are easy to see:
1. Small donations are powering Obama's campaign.
I am really glad to see supporters getting together for this. The worst thing possible for Obama is if his supporters become complacent. Hillary & Bill are a political killing machine, it's gonna take millions of people to bury them into the ground.
